As of 1 December 2009, employers in the horticulture and viticulture industries are responsible for ensuring all their overseas seasonal workers have private medical insurance. The workers, officially known as Registered Seasonal Employees (RSE), will pay for the insurance. The
change of government policy came about to reduce the burden on the taxpayer-funded public health system.
